Picture Day is a special day for us at Inter-State Studio. Every student's face we capture is a memory preserved for a family for a lifetime to come, and if they choose to keep all of their school pictures, a unique way to track their child's growth. This is why a fresh haircut matters so much for so many parents.
An article in this week's The Hutchinson News highlights an event to help families that need their children to look their best for Picture Day. At Lincoln Elementary School in Hutchinson, KS "Hot Dogs and Haircuts", sponsored by a local church, Image courtesy of The Hutchinson News allows children to get a professional haircut. About 5 beauticians and 5 barbers pitched in to help cut the hair of girls and boys. An estimated 60 volunteers from the church volunteered to help sweep hair up and keep the event running smoothly.
The timing of the event was not accidental as Picture Day was this week for Lincoln Elementary as well. It is extremely heartwarming to see a community come together to help each other put their best foot forward for a tradition like Picture Day. School pictures remain something that connects us through generations, whether it is an old photograph tucked somewhere or an elementary yearbook or even high school yearbook that has been passed down through the years. Those photos of grandpa, grandma, mom and dad all survive somehow. We're proud that school pictures are one of the ways memories survive through the generations, and are inspired that events like "Hot Dogs and Haircuts" help them happen.
